Scott Harold DeYoung
Biography
Scott Harold DeYoung lived well, loved well and led well.
Scott had an extraordinary passion for enjoying life. From the simplest pleasures to the very extravagant, he delighted in sharing the joy of these with others. His heart was full when he knew you had enjoyed yourself, too. Good food, fine wine and deep relationships were hallmarks of his journey. He lived well.
Scott embraced relationships, quietly building a deep place that made people feel safe in his presence. Integrity, loyalty and kindness came from every place of his being that assured others that they were valued, loved and respected. He treasured deep relationships. He loved well.
Scott had a vision for excellence in everything around him - for projects, for relationships, for food and wine, and for life itself. He always envisioned the best of these things and lived like it was already true. Yet, he was also ready to help it get to the next level. His gentle replies, steadfast resilience, and probing inquiry, subtly influenced us to our next step towards excellence. He led well.
Scott grew up in idyllic Miamisburg, Ohio with loving and attentive parents and sister, each blessing and shaping him for many successful years ahead. His industrious nature was revealed early on with mowing lawns, newspaper routes and painting jobs. He was an early investor in coins and cars which helped him finish his educational career.
He deeply enjoyed extended family experiences as well and always held these as the fondest of memories in his heart. Summers and family reunions at the family’s lake cottage were of his most special memories.
Scott met Sheree in high school, but it was many years before they finally connected again for beginning a deeply rich and wonderful marriage in 2003. December will mark their 17th wedding anniversary.
Scott studied in Ohio, Oklahoma and Scotland, finishing with a Master of Science in International Banking and Finance in 1992. He began his career with NCR and AT&T, soon moving to his most recent and long-standing career with Unilever. The last nine years were spent in Switzerland, a fulfillment of a long-standing desire to live and work internationally. January 2021 would mark his 25th year of service. He is widely known for his candor, composure and character.
Scott’s influence and touch will be greatly missed by family, friends and colleagues, but they will also live on in each one as a living tribute to his extraordinary life.
We are tremendously comforted knowing we will celebrate with him again one day through our Lord Jesus Christ.
“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” Philippians 4:8
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Sheree; parents, Jim and Maryann DeYoung; and sister, LynnMarie Boaz-DeYoung. Scott was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jerry Boaz
