Obituary

Kathy Delois Bowden passed away peacefully with her three children by her side after a long and happy life.

Born Aug 11 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama.  She grew up during the Civil Rights movement.  Such a fiery environment would fuel her life-long conviction for justice and truth.  Always independent, she moved out her mother’s home at the age of nineteen.  And eventually made a living as a bank teller.  But In the early eighties she became captivated and was an early adaptor to the emerging field of computer technology.

Truth, independence, and pursuit of knowledge are values she would later pass onto her children.  Instilled with such values, all three of her children would excel and graduate with university degrees.  The achievements of her children were only possible from growing up in house full of books, computers, and early lessons of perseverance and tenacity.

Always active in civil engagement, she was a consistent donor of the Democratic National Party and a myriad of community grassroots organizations.  As a software programmer, she was a believer of empowerment through education particularly advocating more women in computer science.  After raising her children and ensuring they all went to college, Kathy went to college and earned her Bachelors of Science in Technical Management at age 62.  An inspiration to us all.

As one to never hold back from speaking the truth and with the biggest heart, she was the moral anchor for her whole family.  Her presence will always be felt by all who knew her.

A devout Jehovah Witness, Kathy is survived by her children: Edward (Maria) and his children: Elizabeth Marie and Edward John IV.  Her daughter Krista and her children: Dominique, Xavier, and Kristopher. Her youngest son Brandon and his son, Brandon Junior.  Kathy’s younger sister Stephanie and her children: Keith, Sheree (Corey), and Tatianna.  Her younger sister Elenore (Rick).  Her other younger sister Nancy (Vince) and her children Anthony and Ashley (Londell).  Her youngest sister Simona and her daughter Imani.   Her younger brother Marvin.  And Kathy’s life companion Ronald.

Bible Verses

Genesis 24:67
:

Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her; thus Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

Ecclesiastes 3:

1

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time        to refrain from embracing,

a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

9

What do workers gain from their toil?

10

I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.

11

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human        heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

12

I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good               while they live.

13

That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is            the gift of God.

14

I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it             and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

Dear Mom,

I want to thank you for making me the man I am today.  I know it was hard for you raising three kids by yourself.  But you did it.  I know how proud you are of all of us.  I know you sacrificed much.  But these lessons of sacrifice, responsibility, and perseverance I will never forget.  Struggling, no matter the cost, to get what you want is a big lesson I’ve learned from you.  I can feel you looking down on us.  It’s a warm feeling.  You are always here.  You are not gone.  I am at peace that you are free.  I am at peace that you have rest.  I can still see your smile, hear your laugh, and see you dancing.  I know you were finally ready to leave, having found happiness with your grandchildren and with your children at your side.  Surrounded by love.  Continue to guide me and direct me.

Love you forever,

Edward
