Obituary
Jacqueline Stokes, 87, made her transition Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Born to the late Arthur and Zena Reid, Jackie, as she was fondly known, was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and after graduation from High School in 1950 attended Business School.
Jackie spent many years working in the family dry cleaning business and then later started her career with Bell Atlantic holding various positions until her retirement in 1993.
She was an active member of the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in Philadelphia and served as a Church School teacher and a member of the Sisterhood Guild.
Jackie loved traveling, cooking and just being around people. She had such a zest for life and her smile would light up a room. Jackie touched so many lives with her kind and gentle spirit and will be greatly missed.
Surviving to mourn her loss are son, Gary Stokes of Spokane, WA and his wife Mariesa; daughter Linda Stokes-Jackson of Edison, NJ; sister Doris Levin of Lansdowne, PA; and four grandsons; Craig Stokes (Alyse) of Silver Spring, MD; Mark Stokes (Willia) of Virginia Beach, VA; Jordan Jackson of Edison, NJ and Jayden Jackson of Edison, NJ and great granddaughter, Aria Jeannette Stokes. Jackie also leaves behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

I met Jackie in 1984 at Hampton University homecoming. When I met her she made me feel as though we had been friends for years. Jackie’s smile and laugh was warm and captivating. When we got together we had to play Scrabble, she loved to play and she was very good at it. Jackie will surely be missed, I thank God for the friendship we shared and the times we spent together. I will continue to keep her memories in my heart.

Aunt Jackie always had a bright smile and a great outlook on things. Her personality was permanently perky.

I have such fond memories of Mama Stokes (I believe I may have called her Mrs. Jackson because of Linda!) She was always so kind and funny. My daughter Maddison loved her...Linda often let Maddison stay with her while I was traveling. You will be missed. Prayers from my family to yours .

My sincerest condolences to the Stokes family on the loss of their beloved matriarch. I was privileged to be able to lovingly call her Nana. She always had a beautiful smile and spoke words of wisdom whenever I was in her presence. Nana was fierce, funny, delightful! She will sorely be missed by all who had the honor of knowing her. Rest In Peace beloved!
